Do you know where your family lines immigrated from? Do you realize you are really made up of more than just your mom, dad and grandparents?

This video was so telling. It really captures how global our DNA really is!

From one of the participants, “This should be compulsory. There would be no such thing as extremism in the world if people knew their heritage.”

Perhaps you’ve always wondered if you had Native American in your DNA?

What’s DNA used for?

Many of us think this information is very useful for several reasons.

  • It lets us know where our family history story is from!
  • There are adoptees out there looking to find a glimmer of hope to find their birth roots.
  • These adoptees really need medical family trees. Our human history in this world has many babies sold on black markets, traded away from families or taken in by others that weren’t family. Then there are the Orphan Trains, closed adoptions, and abandoned children. They all have a compelling story and they are looking for their family.

There was a child in my own family adopted out about 1920. I had the half-brother of this adoptee test. If only the adoptee or one of the descendants would test, they would find us! We’re waiting for them to get in touch.

Wondering where to test at?

Ancestry.com: autosomal test runs about $99. They do run specials at Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas and National DNA Day. Typically many of us suggest that you test with Ancestry first then transfer your raw data to family tree DNA for $35.

Family Tree DNA: autosomal test runs about $99. They also have the yDNA for men and mtDNA for women. Test as many markers as you can afford.

23andMe: Their test is most expensive at $199.

When you get your test results please also load your DNA results over at GedMatch. It’s another service that adoptees and the rest of us use to try to compare the results.

Please note I have no affiliation with any of these companies. I have tested with them all.
